Freestyle Motocross has grown from a fringe sport to a stadium-filling attraction that packs in tens of thousands of people to watch the high-flying action. Before each competition, Motocross riders are busy working on new tricks and new variations of existing tricks. The Superman was performed in competitions beginning in the late 1990s. Learn the Superman, and then work on some other variations to increase the scores you'll receive from competition judges.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Motocross bike
  • Foam landing pit
  • Protective gear

Step1
Go to your local ramp and perform some straight warm-up jumps to get yourself ready to work on the Superman.
Step2
Make a final jump and think about each step of the Superman trick as you make one last dry run. Picture yourself positioning your body for the Superman as you near the peak of the jump. Picture yourself getting back on the bike properly as you start the descent.
Step3
Ride your bike back around to the same jump and line yourself up for a perfect take-off.
Step4
Hit the gas and speed toward the jump with the same amount of speed you had on the last dry run.
Step5
Keep the handlebars straight in front of you when you hit the jump. As the bike rises in the air, kick your feet up off the pegs.
Step6
Stick your legs straight out behind your hands, keeping your feet as close together as possible. You should look like you are flying directly above the bike (which you are). Make sure you don't pull with your left or right arm on the handlebars and turn the front wheel, or you'll make your landing more difficult.
Step7
Position your body back over the bike in proper landing position. Try to move your body to the bike instead of pulling the bike out of position to your body.
Step8
Spot your landing as soon as you are comfortable on your bike. Make any necessary adjustments to ensure you land squarely.
Step9
Do another Motocross Superman jump, and try to hold your position above the bike a little longer with each subsequent attempt. When you have maximized the amount of time you can spend suspended above the bike, keep practicing the Superman until you can do it with ease.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never attempt any Freestyle Motocross tricks without full protective equipment. You can seriously injure yourself if you're not extremely careful.
  • If you can't do a No Footer during a jump, put off learning the Superman until you can consistently find the foot pegs during a long No Footer.
