The professional riders involved in Freestyle Motocross can do a No Footer without even batting an eyelash. In fact, this trick has become the basis for many other difficult tricks in the sport, like Cat Walks, No Footer Backflips, the Superman and more. Many riders land a bigger trick with a No Footer. You need to do the No Footer to get used to lifting your feet off the pegs during the jump. You also need to practice your ability to replace your feet on the pegs of your bike while you're in the air.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Motocross bike
  • Foam landing pit
  • Protective gear

Step1
Head to a jump area where you feel comfortable.
Step2
Throttle the bike up to speed and hit the ramp. Watch for the sensation of hitting the peak of the jump, then start into your descent. Keep your eye on your landing spot and steer towards it.
Step3
Circle around to your starting position and prepare to take the same jump again.
Step4
Line the bike up to do the No Footer, then wait. Run through the jump in your mind. Picture the speed you need, imagine hitting the ramp, run through the timing of your feet and the way you're going to land. You want to have a plan down for the jump before you get in the air.
Step5
Throttle the Motocross bike up to speed and head straight for the ramp.
Step6
Take your feet off your bike's pegs as you near the peak of your jump. For your first attempt, you can move your feet just a couple of inches off the foot pegs.
Step7
Return your feet to the pegs as you begin your descent.
Step8
Pick your landing spot and do your best to hit it. Continue to practice until you can land a No Footer.
Step9
Circle around for another No Footer. This time, take your feet farther off the pegs and hold them out a little longer. Gradually increase the distance you stick your feet out and the amount of time they are off the pegs with each additional jump.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure all of your safety gear is on before you try any tricks, and that your gear can withstand the punishment of a fall.
  • When learning a new trick, it is best to be familiar with the jump itself. This enables you to make dry runs off the jump until you feel comfortable enough to try to do a Motocross No Footer.
