Few water activities are as exhilarating as riding a jet ski. Jet skis are fast, they're agile and they can be operated by people of various skill levels. The only drawback in regards to jet skis is they are not permitted everywhere. That means it's important to find jet ski ride areas near you so you know where to go.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find out about new jet ski areas from other riders you meet. Often there are small lakes or water sources nearby which are unregulated and can be used.

  2. Step 2

Get information about nearby parks that have bodies of water in them. Some of these parks offer water sports like jet skiing or kayaking and can be accessed year round.

  3. Step 3

Head to the ocean or find an enclosed lagoon nearby. The ocean is almost always open to jet ski use (except within a certain distance to shore to protect swimmers). Enclosed lagoons are often perfect for jet ski use since they have decreased wave activity and fewer hazards (seaweed, people).

  4. Step 4

Head to JetSki.com and access their jet ski ride area resource center (see Resources below). This offers one of the most complete collections of links and contacts for ride areas throughout the country and around the world.

  5. Step 5

Click on the appropriate link to find jet ski ride areas near you. For example, if you live in California then you would click the "In the USA--States west of the Mississippi" link. If you're looking to find jet ski areas in other parts of the world then click the "Internationally" link.

  6. Step 6

Check JetSki.com for information regarding jet ski events near you. Sometimes events will be held in locations you've yet to try, so pack up your jet ski and head to the meet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Join a jet ski club. Many communities have groups of jet ski owners who band together and ride their skis in different areas throughout the season. Most are free to join and are just loose associations of fellow enthusiasts, but others offer competitions and membership benefits.
  • Don't ride your jet ski in areas where such activities are prohibited. Fines for using a jet ski in areas which are off limits can be steep. Stricter locations can even have your jet ski impounded for violating the prohibition, so always be sure jet skis are permitted in areas where you wish to ride.
