How to Use ICQ in Trillian
ICQ is one of the more popular instant messaging services available, as it doesn't require sign-up with a major service provider (like Hotmail or Yahoo, for example). With just a quick registration you can get your own ICQ number and be chatting away with friends. If you have contacts who use other instant messaging programs, however, you'll want to use Trillian to consolidate your friend list into one convenient server.

Download and install Trillian, which you can find at the Cerulean Studios website (see Resources below). Once installed, simply run it from your Start menu or double-click the Trillian desktop icon.

Add your ICQ account(s) you use to Trillian using the "Manage My Connections" menu option. Just enter your ICQ number and password into the text boxes. If you don't already have an ICQ account, click the "Register for a New Account" button and go through the account creation process via ICQ.

Click "Connect" to use your ICQ account in Trillian. If you've enabled Auto-login then it will connect automatically to ICQ whenever you restart Trillian. When you first add your ICQ account you can click the "Automatically connect to this account at startup" check box to enable the feature.

Send ICQ users instant messages by double-clicking their names, typing your messages in the text boxes and pressing "Enter" once you're done.

Start a chat with multiple ICQ users using the "Invite User" feature. Do this by double-clicking an ICQ contact, and selecting the "Invite User" menu option. A pop-up will appear asking which other ICQ users you wish to invite to the chat. Select all those you wish to invite and click "OK."

Send files to ICQ users by pressing the "Send a File" button and choosing the file from the menu window. The transfer speed for files is typically slow (between 2 Kbps and 22 Kbps) but fast enough for smaller files.

Tips & Warnings
Buy Trillian Pro to get the opportunity to try out video chat services. You'll be able not only to communicate with your ICQ contacts but see and hear them as well. Trillian Basic does provide audio chat.
Be aware that you can only open a multi-person chat dialogue with people using the same instant messaging service. In other words, if you want to have a conference chat with several different contacts at once, then they would all need to be connected via their Yahoo! accounts or their ICQ accounts but not both.
