Outlook is a web-based email client developed by Microsoft, and it's available in two versions: Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express. To set up your Verizon email so it's functional with Outlook, you'll need to add your Verizon account to either Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Verizon email account and password

Set Up Verizon Email in Outlook Express

Step1
Open Outlook Express.
Step2
Select the "Accounts" tab from the "Tools" menu.
Step3
Click on "Mail" to begin the setup of your Verizon email account.
Step4
Double-click on the option leading to your email account. (On most versions of Outlook Express, there will be a "My Accounts" tab, or a similarly-named option in the "Mail" menu.) Locate and click on the "Servers" tab.
Step5
Find the box labelled "SMTP." Here, you will enter the name of the outgoing server Verizon uses. Contact Verizon customer service if this information isn't provided with the CD-ROM materials Verizon will send you when you sign up with them for Internet service.
Step6
Check the "My Server Requires Authentication" box.
Step7
Notice the button that is highlighted when you select the "My Server Requires Authentication" button. It should be labeled "Settings." Click on this button.
Step8
Check the "Log On Using" box and enter your Verizon email address. Provide your password as well, and check the prompt asking to remember your password.
Step9
Click "OK." Close Outlook Express, then re-open it. You should be ready to go.

Set Up Verizon Email in Microsoft Outlook

Step1
Open Microsoft Outlook, locate the "Tools" menu, and move through the "Email Accounts" option to reach the "Change/View" option. Open the "Change/View" menu.
Step2
Double-click on the email account in order to access the settings screen. Check the "My Server Requires Authentication" box. Click through the "Settings" pop-up box into the "Log On Using" field and enter your Verizon email account name and password, as prompted.
Step3
Click on the box marked "OK." Exit the program and restart it. The new settings should now take effect, and you should have your Verizon email address as the Microsoft Outlook default.

Tips & Warnings

  • To make Verizon email work with Outlook, Verizon once required users to include their Verizon email address in the "Email Address" field of the "Personal Settings" option of the "Settings" menu. Though Verizon officially no longer requires users to do this, if you've done everything right and your Verizon email isn't working in Outlook, completing this step should solve the problem.
