- Verizon email account and password

Open Outlook Express.

Select the "Accounts" tab from the "Tools" menu.

Click on "Mail" to begin the setup of your Verizon email account.

Double-click on the option leading to your email account. (On most versions of Outlook Express, there will be a "My Accounts" tab, or a similarly-named option in the "Mail" menu.) Locate and click on the "Servers" tab.

Find the box labelled "SMTP." Here, you will enter the name of the outgoing server Verizon uses. Contact Verizon customer service if this information isn't provided with the CD-ROM materials Verizon will send you when you sign up with them for Internet service.

Check the "My Server Requires Authentication" box.

Notice the button that is highlighted when you select the "My Server Requires Authentication" button. It should be labeled "Settings." Click on this button.

Check the "Log On Using" box and enter your Verizon email address. Provide your password as well, and check the prompt asking to remember your password.

Click "OK." Close Outlook Express, then re-open it. You should be ready to go.

Open Microsoft Outlook, locate the "Tools" menu, and move through the "Email Accounts" option to reach the "Change/View" option. Open the "Change/View" menu.

Double-click on the email account in order to access the settings screen. Check the "My Server Requires Authentication" box. Click through the "Settings" pop-up box into the "Log On Using" field and enter your Verizon email account name and password, as prompted.

Click on the box marked "OK." Exit the program and restart it. The new settings should now take effect, and you should have your Verizon email address as the Microsoft Outlook default.
