How to Use Earthlink Web Mail

In the past, email was tied down to a single computer unless you wanted to go through the process of configuring an email client on other computers. If you did use several computers to check the same email account, your messages were spread out and hard to manage properly. Web-based email, or web mail, was created so people could use their email accounts from any computer with access to the Internet. Earthlink developed a proprietary web mail system with all of the features and functionality of the most popular email clients (programs you use to send and receive email).

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Open the web browser on the computer you are using. (Open another web browser window if this is the computer you will use to check your web mail.)
Step2
Navigate to the official Earthlink website in order to check your web mail (see Resources below).
Step3
Provide your entire Earthlink email address in the white box under "Email Address (or EarthLink ID)." Type your Earthlink email password in the remaining white box, and click the "Sign In" button.
Step4
Look for the "Inbox" link, and click it to view new email messages. Web mail may open up to the "Inbox" when it opens.
Step5
Use the "Write Message" link or icon (open envelope and pencil) to create a new message. Type the recipient's email address in the box after "To." Add a title for your message in the "Subject" box. Type your message in the large white box.
Step6
Select the "Send" button when you finish the email and are ready to deliver the message. The "Send" button is located just above the message recipient's email address.
Step7
Look for the "Check Mail" link beside an icon featuring a white envelope and two blue arrows, and click it to send and receive messages immediately.
Step8
Delete emails and forward emails by clicking the appropriate buttons after opening the email from the "Inbox."
Step9
Sign out of your Earthlink web mail account when you finish using it so others cannot access your messages.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always be careful checking your Earthlink web mail in a public place, like a library. Make sure no one is watching you type your password as you log into your account.
  • Never allow a computer to remember your user name and password when the computer is available to the public. The next person using the computer will have instant access to your email account.
