Using the auto-reply feature in Eudora Mail is ideal for those times when you're traveling, busy or away from your computer for an extended period. Best of all, the feature is easy to set up. The auto-reply feature will send an automatic, pre-written reply to people who write you messages, updating them on your status and letting them know when you'll return.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Sponsored or paid version of Eudora Mail

Create Your Auto-Reply Message

Step1
Access the "Stationery" feature from the "Tools" menu. Right-click anywhere inside the stationery window and select "New" from the context pop-up menu.
Step2
Write the auto-reply exactly as you want it to appear to people who write to you. Remember to include a generic greeting or salutation, as this will not be automatically generated by the system. Click on "File," and choose "Save As Stationery" to enter a file name and save your auto-reply message.
Step3
Proofread your message, double-checking it for accuracy. Save your newly written automatic reply to your "Stationery" folder. Then, close the "Stationery" dialogue box before proceeding.

Set Up Your Email to Auto-Reply to Messages

Step1
Click on the "Tools" menu and select the "Filters" option to open the "Filters" window. You are going to use Eudora Mail's filter actions to tell the system which emails will generate an automatic reply and which emails will not.
Step2
Access the "Match" section and choose a message header from the drop-down list. This will send your auto-reply to all messages with a header matching what you've selected. To set up your auto-reply to respond to everyone who writes you, choose the "Any Recipient" option. Otherwise, only messages with a header matching the filter action you've selected will receive your automatically generated reply.
Step3
Access the "Action" section of the "Filters" menu. Find the "Reply with" option in the first drop-down section, and click on it. This will open a new dialogue box.
Step4
Select the "Stationery" file you created to serve as the body of your auto-reply message. This enables Eudora Mail to recognize which automatic reply you want delivered, in the event that you have more than one auto-reply saved in your "Stationery" folder.
Step5
Click on "OK" to enable your filters. Now, messages sent by parties who match your indicated header will receive your auto-reply instantly upon sending you an email message.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't forget to delete the auto-reply filter when you want the automated messages to stop. The auto-reply feature continues to generate automatic responses, even after you log into your Eudora mail account.
