    Understand How to Filter Messages

  1. Step 1

Click the "Tools" tab at the top of the Eudora Mail layout, and select "Filters" from the drop-down list.

  2. Step 2

Choose to match your filter actions to "Incoming" messages or "Outgoing" messages. If you want to select messages to apply filters to manually, choose "Manual" and highlight your chosen messages by clicking on them in the window list.

  3. Step 3

Select a header. This will group your messages for filtering by header, including five main options: "To," "From," "CC," "Subject" and "Reply-To."

  4. Step 4

Enter the text you want included in your specified header, accompanied by an option from the "contains" menu directly beside the text field.

  5. Step 5

Add an operator to your main filter list. The available operators include "ignore," "and," "or" and "unless." You can then add a second phrase of text using the additional "contains" menu.

  6. Learn the Eudora Mail Filters

  7. Step 1

Apply up to five action filters to any one message.

  8. Step 2

Use the "None" option to take no filter action.

  9. Step 3

Assign a selected status to a message summary by using the "Make Status" option.

  10. Step 4

Use the "Make Priority" filter action to assign the priority level of your choice to filtered messages.

  11. Step 5

Replace message subjects by using the "Make Subject" filter. All messages you select will automatically have their subject lines replaced with a new subject line, which you'll be prompted to enter.

  12. Step 6

Get your other computer applications to display a notification when you receive a new message by using the "Notify Application" filter.

  13. Step 7

Reply to messages you receive with a pre-written "stationery" message by using the "Reply With" filter.

  14. Step 8

Copy or transfer selected messages to the destination of your choice by using the "Copy To" or "Transfer To" filters.

Tips & Warnings
  • Filter actions can be used twice on the same message, so long as it has no direct affect on the original message. As an example, a user can apply the "Copy To" filter to the same message twice, but you cannot "Transfer To" twice, because it affects the original message by transferring it to the specified mailbox.
  • Not all filters are available with the sponsored or light versions of Eudora Mail. To get full access to all Eudora Mail filters, you'll have to subscribe to the paid version of the program.
