How to Attend Traffic School

If you have decided to attend traffic school, there are some things you can do to prepare for class. Most schools will provide you with a list of requirements and items you need to bring with you, along with any manuals you must read.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign up for traffic school early. In large cities, classes may fill up quickly and small towns may only offer them once a month or less. When you sign up, provide all necessary the information at once, so there are no delays.

    • 2

Let the school know if you are taking a class to reduce points, as part of a court order or as a way to clean your record and reduce insurance points. This will help the traffic school to choose the most appropriate program for you and to prepare the right completion certificate.

    • 3

Arrive on time. Most courses last an average of eight hours and do not allow for lateness and unscheduled breaks. Most classes are held on weekends to allow working people to attend without missing work. Others are held over two days.

    • 4

Bring water and small snacks. Depending on where you attend classes, you may not have enough time to step out of the building to find coffee or something to eat during breaks. Or confirm in advance if a café is available on the premises.

    • 5

Sit close enough to the instructor that you can hear him without interruptions. Many of the people who attend traffic courses are not there to really listen, so will have to deal with whispering, students moving around and beeping phones. To truly understand what is going on, arrive early and choose the best seat available.

Tips & Warnings

  • You will need to provide the school with the appropriate address to send the certificate to. Most traffic schools will not give it directly to you but instead ship it to the appropriate authorities.

  • Remember to bring with you any manuals or material given to you in advance, and don't forget pen and paper for taking notes or to jot down specific questions or information.
