Step 1
Make sure Internet Explorer is open. Visit Ask.com to download the Ask.com Desktop Search (see Resources below).
-
Step 2

-
Step 3
Click the "Run" button. This will download and run the setup program. Depending on your security settings, you may get another security-warning dialog box when the program is done downloading. If you do, go ahead and click the "Run" button on the security-warning dialog box.
-
Step 4
Click the "Next" button to install the software. Read the license agreement. Click the "I Agree" button.
-
Step 5
Close Internet explorer if you haven't already done so to avoid getting a warning when you install.
-
Step 6
Choose your install location and click the "Install" button. Accepting the default location should be fine.
-
Step 7
Select your preferences or just leave the default settings before finishing the installation. Uncheck the check box next to "Run Ask Desktop Search v2.1" if you don't want the program to start up right away. Uncheck the check box next to "Create a shortcut on my desktop" if you don't want a shortcut placed on your desktop.
-
Step 8
Click the "Finish" button. If you left the default settings in the last step, a shortcut will be placed on your desktop, and the Ask.com Desktop Search will open. Look in the right corner of the start bar at the bottom of the screen and right-click the small "Ask.com" icon.
-
Step 9
Select "Open Application Interface" or click the shortcut on your desktop to start the user interface. You are now ready to conduct fast and easy searches right from your desktop.
