Pet birds require a certain amount of playtime to play every day or they'll get restless in their cages. You can find toys at a variety of outlets that will help keep your pet bird happy.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bird cage
  • Tape measure
  1. Step 1

Combine exercise with entertainment by buying a bird gym. Bird gyms are elaborate stands with swings, perches and attached toys that provide an exercise venue for up to three birds or more.

  2. Step 2

Obtain perches to give your pet bird a different view of her cage. The size of high-end perches can be adjusted according to the bird's growth.

  3. Step 3

Attach a swing to the top of your bird cage to offer your bird regular exercise. You can buy an inexpensive swing with a simple wooden seat.

  4. Step 4

Allow your bird to strengthen his claws and legs with weighted toys. Pet stores with a basic supply of bird toys can offer colored circles, squares and triangles made of heavier materials to increase your bird's strength and keep it healthy.

  5. Step 5

Stimulate your bird with hanging toys of various shapes and colors. You can feed your pet bird's hunting instinct when you buy a hanging toy with small spaces for treats.

  6. Step 6

Stimulate your bird's interest with specialty feeding devices. A water dish with bright colors and an automatic feeder with a chirping sound can attract the attention of your bird while you are away.

  7. Step 7

Test out bird toys with bells to find the right combination of sounds to attract your pet bird. Purcahse balls, rings and other items that create quiet ringing to avoid startling your bird.

  8. Step 8

Separate toys for each of your pet birds to avoid conflicts. Small birds who share a cage may compete over similar toys if they lack sufficient stimulation.

Tips & Warnings
  • Measure the size of the bird toys you're considering to ensure you buy items that will fit in your pet's cage. You should measure the dimensions of the cage's interior along with items currently used by your bird.
