Step 1
Check out the options online by browsing the photo galleries of popular pet photographers. Decide what style you are interested in (black and white, color, photojournalism style or strict portraiture). Once you know what you want, print a couple of examples or save them to file so you can share them with prospective photographers.
-
Step 2
Examine photographers' portfolios and any brochures detailing their achievements and qualifications. Ask them to review your sample photographers to find out whether or not they can mimic your preferred style.
-
Step 3
Call local advertising agencies. Ad agencies often use photographers for shoots involving pets and you may get recommendations from this source.
-
Step 4
Contact your local mall. Many malls sponsor holiday pet portraits and can recommend one or two photographers with whom they have worked before.
-
Step 5
Ask your veterinarian if she can recommend any local pet photographers. She may have used a pet photographer for promotional material.
-
Step 6
Call your local pet store. They may have some local pet photographers on file. They may also have an upcoming pet photography event to which you could bring your pet. This is a more inexpensive way to get pet portraits.
