Step 1
Decide how you will be using this badminton set. Determine whether you will be using the set primarily for playing at a club, school or competition. If you want the set for school or casual outdoor parties, purchase a cheaper set that you won't mind suffering accidental damage from careless badminton players.
-
Step 2
Purchase a set that has a racket made of steel or light aluminum. If you will be playing competitively, purchase a carbon-fiber racket, which is the lightest and most aerodynamic.
-
Step 3
Check for a complete set. Your set should contain two to four racquets, at least two shuttlecocks or "birdies," a net and stakes. It should also have basic directions.
-
Step 4
Compare the pros and cons of different badminton sets. Some pros to look for are lightweight construction, easy assembly and quality build. Some cons to avoid are weak net poles that can bend and warped rackets. Look carefully at the shuttlecocks before purchasing. Do not purchase a set that has broken or damaged "feathers." Damage will cause the shuttlecock to fly erratically through the air.
-
Step 5
Make sure the badminton set you buy comes with a carrying case. This is very helpful for storage during the off-season.
-
Step 6
Check combo sets. Badminton sets are often combined with volleyball products to make them more appealing to the general customer. While this may seem like a good deal, the nets and poles that come with these sets may not be regulation size. If you are serious about badminton, check on the sizesbefore you buy a combo set.
