Since the advent of Tiger Woods, golf has seen a huge resurgence in popularity. Part of the Tiger Woods story is the hours he spent playing golf as a kid. Kids all over the world have been inspired to play golf just like their golf idol(s). In the past, you couldn't buy golf gear for kids anywhere. You were forced to cut down old golf clubs to size just to get your kids something they could use to hit a ball. Today, several companies design golf gear specifically for kids.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Project how much golf your kids will play over the next year or two. Take into account how much your kids like to play golf and how much they have played in the last year.

  2. Step 2

Buy a junior set of golf clubs. Most junior sets come with a wood, a putter and an iron or two. You can find golf sets for kids with a golf bag included.

  3. Step 3

Use low-compression golf balls made for ladies or designed specifically for kids. Low-compression balls respond better to slow swing speeds, so junior golfers can hit thems farther than regular compression balls.

  4. Step 4

Give kids their own tees, ball markers and divot repair tools to keep in their bag.

  5. Step 5

Provide a kid-sized golf glove for hot days.

  6. Step 6

Buy golf shoes for kids if they are very interested in golf and will play several times a month. Make sure golf shoes have some growing room in them so they can be worn longer. A great trick is to stuff a handkerchief or thin paper in the end of the shoes so they fit better at first.

Tips & Warnings
  • Save money on golf gear for kids when you buy from a garage sale. Since kids quickly grow out of gear, you should be able to find used gear in very good condition.
  • Make sure your kids are comfortable with the gear you buy for them or they will refuse to use it.
  • Put a plastic golf club and golf ball in the hands of your kids as early as possible. You will be amazed at how well kids can hit the ball without any instruction.
  • Let kids find their own swing when they are young or take them to an instructor. Trying to teach your kids the proper golf fundamentals can be difficult, especially for high handicappers.
