Things You'll Need:
- Sparring partners
- Pillows or cushions
-
Step 1
Do the jumping scissors kick in Brazilian jiu-jitsu when you are approached by two opponents. Stand in a defensive posture, with your hands raised, your left foot in front and your left shoulder facing the assailants.
-
Step 2
Wait for your opponents to approach within a few feet before you execute the kick. You will need forward momentum to deliver the kick, but if you take too many steps, your opponents may know which technique you are going to use. If you do not give yourself enough room, your balance may be compromised, and you may fall backwards during the delivery.
-
Step 3
Move suddenly toward your opponents by taking a few short running steps. Push off with your left foot, and open your hips as you leave the ground so that your legs spread out toward each assailant. Bend your knees slightly as you leave the ground.
-
Step 4
Kick toward your nearest opponent first or start with your stronger kicking leg. In other words, if you are right-handed, kick out your right foot first, since your momentum will give more power to your second kick than your first. Aim for a comfortable level on your opponent's body, preferably somewhere on the torso.
-
Step 5
Push off of your first opponent's body by extending your knee and shifting your weight toward your second opponent. Your second kick should be delivered with your knee bent, and then suddenly extended in a snapping motion. The leg that delivered your first kick should immediately land on the ground after the second kick.
-
Step 6
Practice your jumping scissors kick with two sparring partners, using cushions or pillows to avoid injury. Concentrate on maintaining your balance and landing on your feet after delivering the two kicks, and don't fall backward.
