Things You'll Need:
- Sparring partner
-
Step 1
Do a bar choke in Brazilian jiu-jitsu whenever an assailant attempts a straight punch toward your head. As your opponent's arm comes toward your face, step forward with your right foot and use an inside block with your forearm to prevent contact.
-
Step 2
Bring your other arm up from the inside and strike the bicep of your assailant's extended arm. Use the heel of your palm to deliver this blow, which may bring you into contact with a greater area of your opponent's bicep, or unleash a hammer-fist blow, which you can use in a downward motion.
-
Step 3
Pivot your body while striking your opponent's bicep so that your body is perpendicular to his. Face his outstretched arm as you start the bar choke move.
-
Step 4
Use the same hand that delivered the strike to the bicep to deliver another strike to the side of your opponent's neck. Use a scissor formation with your hand to strike your opponent, making the outside of your hand as rigid as possible. After this strike, hook your thumb inside your opponent's collar.
-
Step 5
Step to the inside of your opponent so that your forearm draws tight against his throat, tightening your grip on his collar with the same hand. Use your free hand to grab the opposing lapel, and pull down so that any slack is removed from the collar.
-
Step 6
Twist the hand you're using to grip the collar inward, so that the top of your wrist pushes down on your opponent's throat. By continuing to pull downward on your opponent's lapel, you can increase the pressure until your opponent submits.
-
Step 7
Practice the bar choke move with a sparring partner until you can execute the technique without pauses.
