Step 1
Find an inexperienced Capoeirista. The traditional purpose of the chamada was to teach young participants about the threats of nature and daily life. You can play the role of elder guiding a Capoeirista through his first experience when you do a chamada.
-
Step 2
Extend your arms outward toward a Capoeirista. This act invites the participant into a partnership until you choose to disengage.
-
Step 3
Lock your arms with your partner after you do a chamada in Capoeira. Regional varieties of this martial art allow participants to move side-by-side or face each other as they journey around the roda.
-
Step 4
Break your connection to a Capoeirista if you wish to end the chamada after one rotation within the roda. Novice Capoeiristas who have proven their worth within the roda should be allowed to return to the circle.
-
Step 5
Trip your chamada partner to keep the Capoeira experience authentic. The deceit involved in tripping your partner is designed to prove that dangers lie in the familiar, as well as the unfamiliar, outside of the roda.
-
Step 6
Watch for activity from members of the roda if you have been asked to participate in a chamada. Capoeiristas who form the roda may act out, call for combat and try to rattle your nerves as part of the chamada.
-
Step 7
Challenge your chamada partner to combat at the center of the roda to escalate the intensity of action. The chamada must be broken before either party can return to the center of the roda as a transition from a life lesson to regular activity.
-
Step 8
Ramp up the drama involved in the chamada by challenging your partner to acrobatic feats. You can engage in a bananeira to apply pressure on your partner to perform an au or another difficult move.
