Step 1
Wait for your opponent to grab your wrist. A kosa dorii is ideal for a situation in which an opponent reaches across his own body to grab your right wrist with his right hand.
-
Step 2
Form a fist with your right hand, and step in toward your opponent. As you step forward, lift your opponent's hand upward in a circular movement until it is extended away from his body, with the inside of his forearm facing upward.
-
Step 3
Place your free hand on the back of your opponent's arm, just above the shoulder, once you complete the circular motion. As you move back in toward your opponent, push down on the back of his arm, which will force him to his knees.
-
Step 4
Follow your opponent as he goes to the ground, continuing to put pressure on the back of his arm. You can gently slide your hand up to his elbow and push in, which will inflict a little more pain. Remember to use your opponent's momentum to bring him to the floor, not your own.
-
Step 5
Kneel down beside your opponent as he lays face down on the ground, with his arm fully extended away from his body. Shift your weight over his arm to strengthen the pinning action.
-
Step 6
Practice the kosa dorii move with a partner, taking care not to push too hard on the elbow as your partner falls to the ground. Emphasize the smooth, circular motion of your arm after the wrist grab, since the size of the circle will create the momentum necessary to perform the move.
