If you've never played flying disc golf before, you're in for a treat. Thanks to the dedication of professional disc golfers and passionate amateurs, there are now thousands of beautiful flying disc golf courses around the country just waiting for you and your family to come out and play. The sport is ideal for family fun because it is not too strenuous. It involves walking around a beautiful course and throwing flying discs into baskets. Bring a few extra discs, dress appropriately and exercise common courtesy to others and you just might fall in love with this game.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Wear tennis shoes or other athletic footwear when you hit the disc golf course. Resist the temptation to wear flip-flops. Teeing off involves taking running steps and wet feet and flip-flops are a recipe for disaster. You may also find yourself chasing discs into the water or up trees where flip-flops will be a hindrance.

  2. Step 2

Wear loose fitting, athletic clothes. Tee shirts and shorts are totally acceptable on the Frisbee golf course.

  3. Step 3

Leave the designer clothes at home. If you're taking someone disc golfing on a date, make sure to tell her ahead of time so she knows to wear clothes that can get dirty.

  4. Step 4

Wear a hat or sunglasses to prevent damage to your eyes.

  5. Step 5

Wear sunscreen to protect your skin from burning.

  6. Step 6

Dress in layers. It may be chilly in the morning when you start but as the day progresses you'll warm up and may want to take off a sweatshirt. If you start late in the day, bring something warm to put on when it cools down.

  7. Step 7

Wear your disc golf bag. This is where you'll keep your discs, towel, sunscreen, clothes and other items you may need. Do not leave your bag unattended on the course.

  8. Step 8

Bring a small umbrella with you in case of a sudden downpour and always check the weather report.

  9. Step 9

Check for dress code requirements if you are playing in a tournament.

  10. Step 10

Wear something that makes a statement about who you are. Disc golf has none of the airs and pretensions of traditional golf.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy a disc golf bag with a little extra room in it so you can bring along a few items you may need or to store sweat shirts if you become too hot.
  • Leave the disc golf course immediately if you spot lightning, especially if you are carrying an umbrella.
