Find out when albacore is in season in the area where you fish. Albacore migrate throughout the world's oceans. They can be found in temperate climates and deep blue ocean waters with temperatures of 60 degrees F or above. Consult your state's Department of Fish and Wildlife to discover the best time to fish for albacore.

Step 2
Get a boat sufficiently equipped to go deep sea fishing for albacore. Not only should the boat comply with all laws and regulations for your area, but everyone who sets foot onboard should know the proper safety procedures. If you are unfamiliar with boating and seamanship, charter a boat with an experienced captain rather than trying to take one out yourself.

Take your vessel at least 5 to 10 miles offshore. Albacore can usually be found there, although during off years, they group much further offshore. They tend to follow warmer currents, so check the charts for your area to determine the best spot.

Use attractive bait and sound technique. Albacore can usually be baited with anchovies and sardines, and trolling (letting the line out behind the boat while it idles forward slowly) tends to work well in catching them. Weigh your line so that it drops down to a depth of about 60 feet, though you can sometimes induce a school of albacore to rise to the surface by chumming with live bait.

Land your fish once you've hooked it. Sharp hooks and other equipment will make a big difference. When the fish approaches the surface, land it quickly and adjust the boat to avoid tangling the fish in any other lines. Reduce your boat speed when someone in your party has an albacore on the line.
