Step 1
Note how energy is stored in your body during tai chi. The purpose of the art is to gather and store energy, and then disperse it into your immediate surroundings. By continually visualizing these three distinct parts to tai chi, you can breathe properly with each precise movement.
-
Step 2
Inhale deeply. Visualize the oxygen entering your lungs and note how it gives you life and energy each time. Meditate on how inhaling oxygen is a gift from nature and how nature is directly responsible for giving you life.
-
Step 3
Notice where your inhaling ends and your exhaling begins. This precise point is when your mind decides how your body is going to store and deliver the energy. It is vital to recognize it when you breathe during tai chi.
-
Step 4
Exhale and think about the energy that you are returning to your surroundings. This is what gives your muscles the strength to complete each tai chi movement. Remember, while the movements in tai chi are slow, the force behind the movements is powerful.
-
Step 5
Correlate your breathing with each tai chi movement, inhaling during the opening of each movement and exhaling at the conclusion. For instance, inhale as you step forward and exhale as you return to your original position. Inhale as you move your hands upward and exhale as you return them to their natural state.
-
Step 6
Don't hold your breath during tai chi. The air must continually flow through you to deliver strength and focus.
