Anyone in the family may recite any prayer that is sincere and heartfelt. Bless the main doorway or entrance into the house, and pray for those family members, friends and guests who enter. Sprinkle holy water on the frame of the doorway. Move to the living room or family room and sprinkle holy water there.

Sprinkle holy water in the dining room while saying a short prayer for the future meals to be consumed there. Bless the kitchen, asking God to protect the food stored and eaten in the room, and the family and friends who gather there.

Sprinkle holy water in the bathrooms. Pray for good health.

      • 5

Sprinkle the bedrooms, keeping in mind the need for rest and refreshment for the occupants.

      • 6

Say another prayer for the whole house, and dedicate your thoughts to the general happiness desired within its walls.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Each family member may take turns blessing a different room in the house.

    • Although many Catholics do this blessing, this ritual can be done by other Christians. The blessing can be adjusted to suit any religious tradition at Easter.

    • Except for the general house prayer, which should be said first, any of the smaller blessings may be conducted in any order chosen.
