If you've ever been invited to a costume party at the last minute, but didn't want to do the old eye-holes-in-a-sheet ghost costume, a quick assembled woodchuck costume is just what you need. You can even reuse the costume from Groundhog Day. Even if you only have an hour, you can dress up and make it a real party!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 2 pieces pink felt
  • 2 pieces brown felt
  • 1 piece black felt
  • 1 piece white felt
  • 1 brown hood
  • Brown mittens
  • 1 yard brown faux fur fabric
  • 4 to 6 black broom bristles
  • Brown sweatpants
  • Brown sweatshirt

Step1
Assemble all the pieces that you will need for your woodchuck costume, and clean off a well-lit and well-ventilated area.
Step2
Cut out the felt shapes. You'll need 2 large white circles and 2 small black circles for the eyes. Cut 1 slightly larger black circle for the nose. Form 8 small circles and 2 large pink circles for the paws. Trim 4 large brown and 2 small pink half-moons for the ears and a white rectangle for the teeth.
Step3
Glue the white circles on the hood, one on each side. These will be the eyes for your woodchuck costume.
Step4
Glue the black circles onto the white circles to make the pupils of the eyes. Don't wait for the glue to dry.
Step5
Draw a straight black line down the center of the white rectangle. This will make the buck teeth of the woodchuck costume.
Step6
Glue the teeth to the backside of the front of the hood, with the black line facing outwards.Center the teeth where your forehead will be.
Step7
Glue the larger black circle just above the teeth on the outside to make the woodchuck nose.
Step8
Tuck the broom bristles under the nose while the glue is still hot to glue them in place. Put even numbers of bristles on each side, and space them out to look like whiskers.
Step9
Place the large pink circles on the palms of the gloves, and then space the small pink circles around the top finger edges. This is supposed to make the palms of the hands look like the little padded paws of a woodchuck.
Step10
Attach 2 of the brown half-circles along the curved edge with the hot glue, and then attach the other 2 half-circles in the same way. Once these are dry, turn them inside out, and attach the 2 smaller pink half-moons in the centers to create the ears.
Step11
Glue the ears to the hood, one on each side.
Step12
Create a short tube out of the faux fur by rolling it up and gluing the long ends together. Tuck the end of the fur into the tube, and you have a little woodchuck tail to pin to the seat of the pants. Use the safety pins to secure the tail.
Step13
Drape the remaining pieces of brown felt over your shoes to make little woodchuck feet.
