Celebrate our first president's birthday by raising money for worthy causes and improving your physical health at the same time. The George Washington's Birthday Classic 10-K Race, which is held in February each year, runs along Eisenhower Avenue, through Cameron Run, Holmes Run parklands and Ben Brenman Park in Alexandria, Virginia. It will benefit the Alexandria Police Youth Camp and the city's George Washington Birthday Celebration.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Decide whether to participate in the George Washington's Birthday classic alone or with a team. Recruit teammates if desired. Register for the race online at the official race website (see Resources below). You can also see a copy of the waiver you must sign at that site. Register early to save money on the fees and to get a complimentary long-sleeve George Washington's Birthday Classic t-shirt.
Step2
Register by mail or in person. You can pick up the registration packet in person at Pacers, located at 1301 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. Late registration is held right before the race, from 6:30 to 8:15 a.m., at Race Headquarters (on the north side of Eisenhower Ave).
Step3
Fill out the paperwork and sign the legal waiver that will allow you to participate. Ask each member of your team to fill out an individual registration form. You will need to complete one George Washington's Classic Race team entry form as well.
Step4
Pay the required fees. These are tax deductible, but also non-refundable.
Step5
Get in shape. Start training for the race by breaking in your running shoes, building up your stamina and running increasing distances each day until you can comfortably run for 10 km (approximately 6.2 miles).
Step6
Participate by showing up for the race on time, getting your number and having fun! The first three male and female race finishers will receive prize money.

  • If you collect $100 or more in donations, you can have the registration fee waived. Donations can be mailed in with your registration form or delivered in person on the day of the Birthday Classic.
