Açaí has been touted by Oprah as the new “superfood” because the Amazonian açaí berry (pronounced ahh-sigh-ee) has high levels of antioxidants and cholesterol-fighting fatty acids, protein, and fiber and could be used for curing certain kinds of cancer. Here is how you can incorporate this tasty berry into you diet.

Step1
An easy way to get açaí berries in your diet is to simply drink juices containing it. V8 Splash now contains açaí and is available at most grocery stores.

Other juices that have açaí are Purple and Sambazon. (See the links below for review of these two drinks.)
Step3
Another way to eat açaí berries is to buy it in powder form. Many health food stores carry açaí powder and it tastes great added to smoothies, juice, and fruit salads. Sambazon sells a really nice powder that tastes very fresh.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may be wondering why you can't just eat fresh açaí berries. Well, the açaí berry is 30 - 50% fat, which means that it would get rancid long before it could be shipped to the US.
  • Check labels! If you are eating a low-fat diet them make sure to check and see if your açaí berry juice or powder contains much fat.
