The flavor of tomatoes in a sauce changes dramatically based on whether or not you use the seeds and outside skin. Many amateur or beginning cooks simply leave the skin and seeds in, no matter what the recipe says, as the process of removing them seems daunting. Here is an easy way to eliminate the peel and skin without hassle.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fresh tomatoes
  • A saucepan
  • Water to fill the saucepan just above the level of the tomatoes
  • A ladle
  1. Step 1

    Wash each tomato thoroughly.

  2. Step 2

Heat the water to boiling over high heat in the saucepan.

  3. Step 3

Using the ladle, gently place each tomato into the boiling water.

  4. Step 4

Boil for only two minutes, or until the skin breaks on the outside of the fruit.

  5. Step 5

Using the ladle, remove each tomato and run each under cold water to stop any cooking that may be taking place.

  6. Step 6

The skin should easily slide off each tomato, where it can be discarded.

  7. Step 7

Cut into each tomato, and remove the seeds.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a large enough ladle to handle all the tomatoes.
  • Avoid overcooking the tomatoes.
