  • Bananas
  • Strawberries
  • Orange slices

    Candy and Cake Skewers

  1. Step 1

Buy thin, wooden grilling skewers. If making a grilled dessert, soak the skewers in water for about 20 minutes so they won't burn.

  2. Step 2

Create fun candy dessert skewers by threading gum drops, gummy bears, caramels and miniature candy bars onto the skewer. Serve these during a birthday party or for movie night.

  3. Step 3

Serve caramel brownies on a skewer by threading chunks of chewy brownie, caramels and marshmallows. Serve with whipped cream for dipping.

  4. Step 4

Thread donut holes onto a skewer, alternating flavors and textures. Serve these during breakfast or after dinner with chocolate and caramel sauces for dipping.

  5. Step 5

Stack sponge cake squares on top of each other and provide a variety of dipping sauces. Good sauces for sponge cakes are whipped cream, hot fudge, strawberry sauce, vanilla yogurt and caramel sauce.

  6. Fruit Skewers

  7. Step 1

Freeze a banana for a couple minutes and thread onto a skewer. Dip it into a combination of dark and white chocolate, sprinkle lightly with salted nuts and serve with whipped cream for an elegant, healthy dessert.

  8. Step 2

Put fruits like pineapple, apple, banana and nectarine onto a skewer and place directly on the grill. Brush the fruit with a honey, lemon juice mixture for added sweetness. Serve the grilled fruit skewer with extra honey or ice cream.

  9. Step 3

Dip large strawberries and orange slices into dark or milk chocolate. Allow the chocolate to dry and then thread onto a skewer. Serve chilled with a slice of pound cake.

  10. Step 4

Mix grapes, apple slices and pineapple slices with caramels. These flavors blend well together and provide a healthy dessert with just a little bit of sweet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Any sweet item that won’t crumble when poked is good for a dessert skewer.
  • Save space by packing dessert skewers for picnics and potlucks.
  • If serving a large crowd, cut the wood skewers in half and make smaller dessert skewers.
