A migraine can strike at any moment, making small noises and bright lights unbearable. When you get a migraine, your kids become some of the loudest creatures on earth. Creating a migraine emergency kit puts a handful of fun resources at your fingertips. Read the tips below for some quiet time ideas that will occupy your kids for a few hours during your migraine.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Pack a box with a couple movies, some board games, books, toys and art supplies. Label this the Migraine Emergency Kit, and hide it under your bed. When you get a migraine, pull this box out and let the kids have fun. Since they don’t see these items on a regular basis, it should give you a couple hours of rest.

  2. Step 2

Create a whisper game competition. Tell the kids you’re setting a timer for two or three hours. During this time, no one can speak above a whisper. The winner gets a toy or treat of choice.

  3. Step 3

Turn on the video game system and let the kids have an all day video game marathon. See if a friend or family member wouldn’t mind taking the kids to the video store so they could rent a couple new games.

  4. Step 4

Order pizza, soda, breadsticks and dessert pizza for lunch. Pop a movie in when the pizza arrives, tell the kids to speak quietly and go rest for a couple hours while the kids stuff their faces and watch a movie.

  5. Step 5

Entertain a toddler with soft clay or Moon Sand. Put a sheet down on the floor in your bedroom, throw some modeling clay or Moon Sand on it and let them build.

  6. Step 6

Convince your baby that it’s naptime and lay them in the bed with you. Rub their head and belly until they fall asleep. Take some migraine medicine and nap along with them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Place your baby in their crib when they fall asleep if it makes you more comfortable. Toss in a favorite toy, put on the baby monitor and get some sleep.
  • Don't take migraine medicine that makes you tired if the kids are home. Call for a sitter if your migraine gets so bad that you need strong medicine.
