Step 1
Know how many counterfeit items bearing an American Trademark you are legally allowed to bring into the United States. If you would like to bring more, there are duties involved that you must pay. If you attempt to sneak them through Customs, if caught, you will be fined.
-
Step 2
Passengers were allowed to bring two "knock off" items of the same designer into the country. Depending on what it is, that regulation has now been changed to only allow each passenger to bring in one of such item. The U.S.Customs Department of Homeland Security reserves the right to change this regulation at any time. Use the links included at the end of this article to check for updates.
-
Step 3
If you start using the item before re-entering the United States, it is not considered being imported. You do not have to claim it on your customs declaration form. Be smart about it. Remove the tags and paper after you use it so that it will not look as if it is a new purchase.
On the same note, gifts you receive while overseas do not count as purchases. You DO need to declare them on your Customs declaration form, but where you would normally write the price, instead write "gift." -
Step 4
If you have friends or family members traveling with you and you must have more than one counterfeit version of a certain American Trademark, ask them to put one of your items in their suitcase and bring it into the country for you. This will only work if they do not have the same item as you. The regulation governs what can be brought into the U.S. per person.
-
Step 5
If you are part of the flight crew, or friends with the flight crew, you can always ask them to carry something into the U.S. for you. Pack it before you get on the airplane to begin your journey back to the U.S. Know that if you are not personal friends, this can be deemed illegal. Be careful.
