We all want to look younger--we just may not want others to know the lengths we go to in order to achieve a more youthful appearance. Microdermabrasion is a great tool for women (and men) who want a quick, non-invasive way to tackle uneven pigmentation, dryness and light lines and acne scars. The best part is that you can have it done over your lunch hour, and no one has to know.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Foundation and/or concealer
  1. Step 1

Pick a good dermatologist. The best doctor to perform your microdermabrasion is one who not only has been doing the procedure for a while, but who does them frequently. She should welcome your questions and provide thorough, easy-to-understand answers.

  2. Step 2

Set up an appointment at the beginning of your lunch hour. That way, if the doctor is running a few minutes behind, you’ll still have time to complete the 15- to 30-minute procedure before going back to work.

  3. Step 3

Tell them your schedule ahead of time. Sometimes there’s nothing the dermatologist can do, but if she knows that you’re on a deadline, she’ll do the best she can to get you in and out on time. Also, ask if you can fill out the paperwork ahead of your appointment so you don’t waste valuable time on your health history.

  4. Step 4

Apply foundation. After microdermabrasion, your skin will be a little pink. To help camouflage this condition, apply foundation and maybe some concealer on your face.

Tips & Warnings
  • Your doctor isn’t pulling your leg if he suggests that multiple treatments will give you the best results. Because it’s non-invasive, microdermabrasion can be performed as often as once a week. Though at that frequency, the cost could prove prohibitive.
  • Don’t expect microdermabrasion to erase all of your skin woes, and stay away from doctors who over-promise. It’s an exfoliation procedure that exposes a fresh layer of skin. It can’t compare to more invasive procedures that tackle tougher jobs such as deep wrinkles or pre-cancerous growths.
