Things You'll Need:
- Computer with an Internet connection
- Keen eye for deals
-
Step 1
Go online. There are a few Dell outlet stores, but the overwhelming majority of Dells are purchased online, and that is where you should do it. Make sure you're not running anything else in the background--you're going to have a number of sites open and don't want to crash your browser.
-
Step 2
Go to Dell.com (see Resources below). Click on the type of computer you want to buy and the type of consumer you are. You're most likely a home user.
-
Step 3
You want to open up as many options as possible, as different portions of the Dell website price computers differently. Open up separate windows for "Smart Values," "Top Customer Picks," "As Advertised" and by clicking directly on the computer you want from the main screen.
-
Step 4
Compare your options. Price out identical computers using the different parts of the website and find the cheapest one. Add it to your shopping cart.
-
Step 5
Coupons! Dell is coupon crazy, and is always running new coupons, although they are usually for the same amount. The coupons expire on Wednesday at midnight and new ones are issued on Thursday. Do an Internet search for "dell coupon" and you'll find lots of results. The most common and reliable coupons are $350 off of desktops over $1,000, and $300 off of laptops over $1,000.
-
Step 6
Order it! Once you've got the cheapest possible deal with the help of online coupons, place your order. Then, while your computer is being put together, check back on the Dell website and monitor the price of similar computers. If a new coupon comes out, or prices drop significantly, Dell is usually pretty good about issuing refunds.
