The first step to Spring Cleaning is to go through your tack room and throw away all the trash that has accumulated over the winter. Inspect all your tack and equipment and make piles of tack and equipment that needs to be fixed/repaired as well as tack and equipment that needs to be washed. Now is a good time to wash all your saddle pads, leg wraps and blankets.
Step2
Make a list of everything you need to buy or replace. Take all your tack apart and clean it thoroughly. Soak your bits in warm water and wipe them dry. Take the string or rope girths off your western saddles and hand-wash them in warm water and mild soap, rinsing well. Wash and repair winter blankets and store away for next year. Check all the leather for cracks and replace anything that is worn.
Step3
Take your horse's water and grain buckets down and wash them out. Take all the brushes, hoof picks, curry combs and grooming supplies out of your tack box and wash them in water with a mild soap, rinsing well and lay out to dry with the bristles facing down so the water drains out of the brushes.
Step4
Sweep out your tack room, wipe down your shelves and racks, and replace all your washed and repaired tack. Now you are ready to enjoy your horse!
