Things You'll Need:
- Needlepoint basic instructions
- Plastic canvas sheets (8½-by-11 sheet makes 2 per wallet-size photo box)
- Scissors
- Needle (gauge size depended upon yarn/ribbon usage)
-
Step 1
First, cut both sheets in half, lengthwise, trimming the edges smooth. You are making boxes, so you want your edges as smooth as possible. A razor blade knife or sharp scissors work great.
-
Step 2
Cut each half sheet into thirds. You should have 3 equal squares per half sheet (depending on original canvas size). Trim accordingly so all squares are equal sizes (approximately 4 inches).
-
Step 3
Take 6 squares and make a cube, connecting each side with yarn. Do not needlepoint this cube. This is made to secure the pictures inside the completed box. Secure the ends inside the cube.
-
Step 4
One of the other squares will be the top of your box, you may needlepoint this next. You can write a name, draw a picture or use it as another picture hole piece for the top. You can add a ribbon, charm or special memento.
-
Step 5
With 4 of the cut squares, cut a hole in the center of each one. You may cut a square, rectangle, diamond, circle--any shape you like. Use a test picture before you cut your lines to make sure you can see and hold the picture with the appropriate sized hole/shape.
-
Step 6
Use your needlepoint basics to decorate each “frame” of your box. Utilize ribbon, buttons, color and technique to create a unique gift, desk display or home decoration.
-
Step 7
Once you have each frame completed, attach them to the top of the box, and then attach each frame to one another, tucking all ends into the corners of the box.
-
Step 8
Place the whole cube you made in step three inside your photo-box. The cube creates a placeholder for your pictures and a bottom for your photo-box!
-
Step 9
Put your pictures in the frames and it is ready to display or give to family/friend as a gift!!
