How to Improve Creative Visualization Skills

If you can envision it, it can happen. While this concept may seem like so much New Age hocus pocus, in reality, creative visualization has worked successfully for many people. Psychologist Win Wenger calls this process “image streaming.” The Silva Method calls it the "UltraMind System." And then there’s Wily Walnut. It may or may not be his real name, but his website is a hub for a wide variety of creative visualization tools. Do you have a goal that seems to be out of reach? Maybe one or more of these creative visualization methods can work for you.

  • Computer
  • Internet connection
  • Quiet place
  • Voice recorder
  1. Step 1

    Win Wenger, Wily Walnut and the Silva Method all have websites which make for good starting points (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

    Set your goal but make sure that it’s reachable and specific, not unreasonable and a generality like “I want to make a million dollars by the end of the year.” Make it more specific, like “I want to earn a raise at my job.”

  3. Step 3

    Find the quietest place in your house or apartment. It can even be a closet or the bathroom. If you don’t have a quiet place in your home, find one outside your home.

  4. Step 4

    Sit or lie down and focus on your goal for 10 minutes to start. If you have to, close your eyes.

  5. Step 5

    Go to your quiet spot at around the same time every day. Meditate on your goal for 10 to 20 minutes or longer. Win Wenger recommends turning on a recorder and continuously ask and answer self-imposed questions while in a relaxed state. This should trigger mental images. Describe the images as they go by in your mind.

  6. Step 6

    As you go about your day, think about your goal from time to time. The Silva Method recommends daily affirmations, a silently repeated phrase that describes your goal.
