Heartburn is a common problem for many and the cost of medication is rising all the time. Fortunately, heartburn can be both prevented and stopped with some natural cures, and a little bit of common sense. Read these tips to overcome your heartburn.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first step towards avoiding and treating heartburn is to quit smoking. Smoking makes heartburn worse, and stopping smoking will make a huge difference both for your heartburn and in many other ways.

  2. Step 2

One common treatment for heartburn that works quite well is to suck on a mint after a meal. The mint flavor and the act of sucking on it help to soothe heartburn quickly.

  3. Step 3

To help prevent heartburn, try eating several smaller meals every day instead of a couple of big ones. Most of the time, overeating is a cause of heartburn, and so if you give your stomach less to digest, there is less room for the heartburn to rise up.

  4. Step 4

Turkey is another natural healer for heartburn. I heard about this one on a trip to Germany and it does work well. Just eat some turkey slices if you are feeling the heartburn coming on and it will help. Eat it slowly though.

  5. Step 5

Finally, do not ever take a nap after eating. This is not the best gravitational setup for digestion and you are simply begging for a case of heartburn if you do this. Save the nap for at least a couple of hours after eating.
