Whether it is the NFL, MLB, or Little League, the jersey number is always a key factor. Many fans remember Michael Jordan's 23, Phil Simms' 11, or Mickey Mantle's 6, but how can you choose a memorable sports number that will also make you happy? There are many steps and maybe one day you will be on the list of greatest sport's numbers.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Avoid Clichés: Unless you are a diehard fan, try to avoid numbers like 23, because then it will only be associated with Michael Jordan and become much harder to make a trademark number of your own. Other clichés include the number 13, it is unoriginal and even can point to bad luck in some cases.

  2. Step 2

Birthday: Birthdays are a popular choice and there are many options when choosing this. You can simply do the number like 15 for July 15th, or the last two digits of the year, so 1987 would have a jersey number of 87. You can also mix that up to if your birthday is earlier in the month. If your birthday is February 2nd, then your jersey could represent that by displaying the numbers 22. Try to be creative and even consider of close family and loved ones for a dedication on your jersey to make it more meaningful.

  3. Step 3

Random: While birthdays have a huge personal relationship with the jersey, you can avoid all that and choose a random number. There are many ways of doing this like picking a number from a hat, asking somebody else, or watching television for a couple of minutes and seeing the first number that comes up on the screen.

  4. Step 4

Lucky Number: Most people have a lucky number, and while you may be skilled enough on the court or field to not need luck, why not add it to your jersey. You may pass your luck on to your fans and spread the number's popularity among people.

  5. Step 5

Initials: Your numbers can also have a secret code as part of their meaning. Simply convert the alphabet to numerical form with A=1, B=2, C=3, and so on and use things like your initials or sayings. AD would equal 14 and the word "Hi" would equal 89. Later letters that go into double digits can get complicated, so just try using one letter like Z = 26.
