How to make each pot of coffee taste like the first

For the serious coffee drinker the coffee pot is not just a pretty item that sits on the counter. It might as well be part of the family so why not treat it that way. Use the following cleaning method once a week and you will be able to taste the difference, just like the first pot you ever made in the new coffee maker.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

• Dirty coffee pot
• Cleaning agent

1. Mix up a pot 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water. If this is the first time you have ever washed or if you have gone a while between cleanings try the 1/2 white vinegar 1/2 water mix.
2. Run this through the coffee machine like you make coffee followed by a pot of clean water. Repeat this step if the pot still smells like vinegar.
3. In place of the white vinegar and water you could use 1/4 baking soda and 3/4 water, or denture tablets (follow the directions on the box to dissolve), or 2 ounces citric acid mixed with water works well too.

Tips & Warnings

• This works better when you strain the mixture through a filter to pick up debris.
• You can stop mineral buildup and transfer by not using the pot to fill the water holding tank.
• Never use soap unless you’re looking for bubbly coffee.
• Never let water sit in the holding tank to avoid mineral build up.
• Never use a coffee pot out of the box. Clean it first.
• Never reuse a filter that has been through a cleaning cycle.
