Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Sonny is a business man. As a front for his mob business, Sonny also runs a coffee bean warehouse in the city of Port Charles. Because of this, Sonny will usually be seen dressed for business, whether it is at his home or at his office, located behind the coffee shop. He is usually dressed in a button up shirt, gelled hair and occasionally an overcoat. Now he usually keeps the top button unbuttoned, but longtime fans of the show know that one of his trademarks used to be having his top button buttoned, so to stand out, keep that tip in mind.
Step2
On top of his distinctive voice and accent, Sonny does a few things in his speech that you will need to practice to perfect. Being the head of the mob, Sonny needs to be bossy and get his point across. One of the main ways that he does this is by putting emphasis on words and making them louder. For example, in the sentence “I need this done now!” Sonny would practically scream the now and point stare into the person’s face.
Step3
Along with the speech, Sonny adds in many mannerisms to help show his angriness and put fear into people. To achieve this, remember to keep your hands on your hips a lot and when you are in deep thought or frustration, show it by placing your hand over your face and looking down. Studying any of Sonny’s scenes will help you notice his mannerisms more and more and let you adapt them into everyday life.
Step4
As intimidating and fearful he may be to strangers and enemies, Sonny is actually a family man deep in the heart. He will do anything to protect his two sons Michael and Morgan, and also his former wife Carly. Just remember to protect your family at all costs and always do anything for them.
Step5
The gun may be Sonny’s weapon of choice when he is work, but when he is home, he is an operator of the spatula. Whether he is making one of his omelets, a nice dinner, or cooking on the grill, Sonny knows his stuff when he is in the kitchen. To perfect this, just watch a lot of the Food Network in between episodes of General Hospital and just keeping cooking until you get better at it.
