Who hasn’t plunged into the depths of a jewelry box for last-minute embellishment and found the desired necklace snarled beyond recognition in a knot of its own devising or in a jumble with its near neighbors? When cursing and stomping don’t help, a couple of alternate techniques might.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hard, flat surface
  • Straight pin
  • Soft flat surface
  • Straight-sided drinking glass or bottle
  1. Step 1

Place the tangled mess on a hard flat surface.

  2. Step 2

Pull the strands carefully away from each other to get a better look at what’s where.

  3. Step 3

Pull one strand at a time until they come loose. You can do this randomly or in some rational order that retraces the steps of entanglement. It’ll make more difference to your blood pressure than the results, so do what comes naturally.

  4. Step 4

Use a straight pin to loosen and untie any knots.

  5. Step 5

Untwist single or multiple strands by placing on a soft flat surface and rolling a glass firmly along their length.

  6. Step 6

Hang your necklaces from now on. If you hang them together they may still tangle, but the tangles will be easier to undo.
