How to Have a Long Distance Valentine’s Day

Maybe you are in college or on a business trip during Valentine’s Day. But guys, this doesn’t make you exempt from this day of obligation. There are a few things you can do to still make Valentine’s special for your woman while you are gone.

1. Early. You have to make a phone call first thing in the morning. Be excited and awake when you do it too. Let the tone of your voice help push along the message of Valentine’s Day to your distant love. Be cheesy and exclaim your love for her and voice your unhappiness at being apart. Just make sure you are (or at least sound) sincere. They can always tell if you are not.
2. Planning. Again, being away doesn’t exempt you from gifts. Make sure, and I cannot emphasis this enough, that you have presents being delivered on Valentine’s morn. There are plenty of flower deliveries that make special arrangements for that day so get your order in early. Send roses at the bare minimum. Sending other gifts never hurts so think about candy or stuffed animals as well. Make sure the notes attached are heartfelt! Even with the notes and the phone call you still need to send a card. Sounds ridiculous but just do it or you’ll pay for it later.
3. Rain check. Make plans for a post Valentine’s dinner or other date for as soon as you can. Let her know the plan and make sure you can keep it. The actual date won’t matter so much then (there are less expectations) so it is in the planning and letter her know about it on Valentine’s that counts. She needs to know that you are not letting Valentine’s Day go just because you are not there in person. You have made plans to make it up to her.
4. All day long. Make sure to call a few times that day. Keep a sweet demeanor when you do call. Make sure to call her one last time before you go to sleep as well. And if you can, use iChat or another web cam chat service.

Tips & Warnings

• Sound like a bit much? Well for men maybe it is but remember that this is one of those few days a year that women really do hold you accountable. You have to make it special however you can or you’ll be paying for it for a long time. It’s not so bad and hey, if it is, then maybe she isn’t worth it. But if she is then go all out and spoil her. She deserves it.
