If there is a person or persons in your life who drain the energy out of you, it may be time to remove their negative influences from your life. Here’s how.
End toxic relationships. A toxic relationship is one that doesn’t make you feel good. If you're in a relationship with someone who encourages you to do unhealthy or illegal things, that is a toxic relationship. If the person makes you feel bad about yourself, that’s toxic. End these relationships and don’t look back. Change your email and cell phone number so the person can’t contact you when you are vulnerable. Toxic relationships are not always romantic relationships. You may have a toxic relationship with a sibling, an old friend or a neighbor.
Step2
Hang out with positive people. The best way to fill the toxic void is to replace it with good feelings. Seek out positive, high energy people who empower you.
Step3
Find new hobbies. Take a fitness or yoga class to meet new people. Sign up for adult classes at local schools to find people who have similar interests as you. Start reading. Find new things to occupy your time so you don’t drift back to the negative influences.
Step4
Change jobs. Working with negative people can suck the life out of you. It may sound extreme, but sometimes it’s best to change jobs. You need to get away from negative environments, and if that includes your workplace, then it’s time to move on.
Step5
Move. If the negative influences are in your neighborhood, consider finding a new address, preferably in another town.
Step6
Focus on the positive. Practice principles from the bestselling book “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne. If you focus on negative influences, then you will attract the negative. Instead, switch gears and focus on positive things, including your aspirations and hopes.
Step7
Meditate. Take a few minutes a day to meditate. It will give you a chance to focus on positive feelings and shut out the negative influences.
