Use Chipboard Letters on Scrapbook Pages

Chipboard letters can add dimension and style to any scrapbook layout. These versatile embellishments are easy to use and look wonderful in your scrapbook album.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Chipboard letters
  • Scrapbook paper (patterned paper)
  • Ink
  • Embellishments
  • Adhesive
  • Scissors or cutting tools
  • Emery boards or fine sand paper
  1. Step 1

Decide where you want to use the chipboard letters on your layout. You might use them to form a word, a name or a title topper. You also can from a monogram or anything else involving letters.

  2. Step 2

Alter the chipboard letters by coloring them with ink. You can dip them into re-inker, spread the ink with a blending pen, rub them directly onto your ink pad or sponge on the color.

  3. Step 3

Cover them with paper. Trace the letter onto a sheet of paper, cut out the paper letter and glue it to the chip board. You also can cut a square that is close to the size of the letter, glue it on and then sand off the excess paper; this allows the paper to mold into the chipboard and leaves the edges smooth so it looks natural in the chipboard embellishment

  4. Step 4

Once you have colored or covered your chipboard letters, attach them to your scrapbook page. Strong liquid glue or gel adhesive tends to work best since the chipboard is a heavier embellishment.

  5. Step 5

Finish your scrapbook layout and display it for everyone to enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Place your chipboard letters on a scrap piece of paper when you color or decorate them so that you don’t get the color on your scrapbook page. If you are coloring the chipboard with paint or ink, allow them to dry completely before placing them on the layout.
  • Tacky tape is another adhesive you can use to stick the chipboard letters onto your scrapbook page.
  • Chipboard letters are great for title toppers on your scrapbook layouts.
  • Cut out paper letters and use them to shadow your chipboard letters to create a more dramatic effect.
