Beauty pageants are a great American pastime, much like the Super Bowl or the World Series. Why not take advantage of a live television pageant--Miss American and Miss Universe are always popular choices--and host your own festivities, complete with costumes, door prizes and ballots.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • paper, pens and pencils for ballots
  • a large-screen television
  • plenty of comfortable seating
  • door prizes
  • snacks and drinks
  1. Step 1

Send out invitations about four weeks prior to your event. Your invitation will set the tone of your event, so make them colorful, glitzy and glamorous. Encourage your guests to dress up--in either evening wear, sports wear or--for the confident and fearless--swim wear.

  2. Step 2

Visit your local party store and stock up on tiaras, sashes, mini cans of hair spray and other fun prizes to pass out to your guests.

  3. Step 3

Plan your menu. Anticipate needing four to six servings of food and two to three servings of drink for each guest. Try champagne or girly drinks like cosmopolitans with popcorn, mini cupcakes and other bite-sized foods.

  4. Step 4

Set the stage. Gather extra chairs and pillows around your television and put out pens, pencils and papers for guests to vote on their favorites.

  5. Step 5

Start the show. Pass out door prizes during commercial breaks and consider giving prizes for the "best dressed" guests after the correlating pageant category.

  6. Step 6

Vote for your favorite contestant. Pass out ballots and let your guests predict the top ten, top five and the eventual winner.

  7. Step 7

Extend the evening by hosting a sleepover and watching pageant-themed movies like "Miss Congeniality" and "Drop Dead Gorgeous."
