Metal lunch boxes make crafty gifts you can fill with treats or themed kits of supplies. Craft stores sell unadorned metal lunchboxes you can alter, or you can recycle used lunchboxes once your children are done with them or that you purchased at a yard sale or thrift shop. Many supplies you use for scrapbooking can be used in altering a metal lunchbox.
Measure the front and sides of the lunch box. Cut patterned papers to fit the front and back of the lunch box and cut paper strips to cover the sides.
2
Use the corner rounder to round the edges of your paper so that it fits well with the lunch box design.
3
Glue the paper onto the lunch box to cover any areas you want. Typically this would be the front, back and sides of the box. You don't have to cover the entire lunch box; you can leave a metal border around the paper. Use adhesive that will not bubble or wrinkle your paper, such as decoupage glue.
4
Embellish the box with stickers, stamps, ribbons, paper flowers, stickers or other embellishments to make it distinctive. If you want to make a themed box, choose embellishments to reflect that theme. Use a strong adhesive to hold the embellishments.
5
Tie ribbons around the handle for a decorative dimension.
Tips & Warnings
Use the metal lunchboxes as a memory album cover. Include pictures on the front and put a mini-album inside.
Let your children decorate their own lunch box to hold trinkets and mementoes.
