Things You'll Need:
- Satin base coat
- Faux crackle glaze
- Flat wall paint
- Clear protector
- Paint roller
- Paintbrush
- Foam brush
-
Step 1
Before you begin sand any old finishes off your table and then cover the areas that will not receive any finish with tape. After taping off the areas, apply the base coat evenly to portion of the table you are finishing. Remove the tape and allow the base coat to dry overnight.
-
Step 2
Reapply tape to protect the areas you don't want to finish. Take your foam brush and apply the crackly over the untaped surface in an X pattern. Only brush over the surface once. The crackle dries quickly so do not overwork it. Completely cover the surface. This will allow the crackle finish to show through all areas. Let sit for about 4 hours.
-
Step 3
Once dry. Apply the flat wall paint with a roller. This paint should be a contrasting color to the base coat. Brush over the crackle surface. You will begin to see your crackled look right away. Don't push down too hard.
-
Step 4
The final coat should set and dry overnight. It is then time to apply the clear protector coat, which will protect the table from any nicks. Use a regular paintbrush. Apply evenly in an up and down motion. Let it completely dry before placing anything on the table. Your crackle finish will look great in any room.
