Pamper your favorite teen and their friends with an at-home spa party which can suit any budget.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hair ties or headbands
  • Cucumbers, sliced
  • Face Masks
  • Nail polish
  • Nail files
  • Cotton balls
  • Foot Scrubs
  • Epsom Salts or Foot Soaks
  • Tubs
  • Scented candles
  • Fresh Flowers
  • White Sheets
  • Cushions or bean bags
  • Towels & washcloths
  • Tube socks
  • Rice
  • Lavender or rosemary
  • Needle & thread
  • Herbal teas
  • Groceries
  1. Step 1

Design your invitation as an appointment card. The venue? A spa named after your teenager, so Claire's Spa or Claire's Beauty Salon. On the invitation ask your guest to bring with them their favorite slippers, washcloth, towel and a robe.

  2. Step 2

One week before your event visit Walmart, Target or a dollar store to pick up beauty bargains. Hairbands, nail polish, cotton balls, face masks, polish removers, scrubs and lotions can be found relatively cheaply there.

Look on the Ehow for recipes for scrubs, masks and soaks. These can be made inexpensively and easily from all-natural ingredients.

  3. Step 3

Create a lounging space for the kids to relax and chat in before and after their treatments. Many spas are decorated with flowing natural fabrics and are light and airy so try to recreate that in this room. Drape the furniture in white sheets to create this feel as well as protect your things! If you have any bean bags or cushions scatter them about. Walls can be decorated with relaxing quotations or thoughts. For a more polished look, consider framing them with an inexpensive frame. For older teens, place scented and church candles through the room as well as potpourri and fresh white flowers. A trickling water feature would also work well in the space. Place a stereo in the room that will fill it with relaxing sounds or soothing music. A sounds of nature CD would be ideal in recreating the spa experience.

  4. Step 4

In another room, preferably close to both the spa lounge and bathroom, create a treatment room. In this room you can set up work stations for pedicures, manicures and facials.

  5. Step 5

Prepare your bathroom for an influx of girls with plenty of towels and washcloths on hand. Scented candles will give the room a luxurious feel.

  6. Step 6

In your child's bedroom, create a changing room. To offer privacy, you might want to consider setting up make-shift changing rooms with drapes of white sheets. When girls arrive show them to the changing room and ask them to change into their gown and slippers. Offer them a terry headband or hairband to tie back loose strands.

  7. Step 7

Upon leaving the changing room, offer your guests a cup of herbal tea and lead them to the lounging room.

  8. Step 8

Offer your guests a herbal neck wrap while they await their treatments. These can be store bought but a less expensive option is creating one using a tube sock. Fill the sock with rice and add lavender or rosemary to it and sew closed. If you don't sew you could knot it at the top. Microwave for 3 to 4 minutes to warm it up and place on guests' necks. Warning: if the bag is too hot to touch, it's too hot to be placed on skin!

  9. Step 9

You will probably need assistance in manning the beauty treatment stations, so it's best to get the help of friends and family in setting the girls up.

  10. Step 10

Face masks can be purchased at stores or made at home in advance. Place cucumber slices on the eyes or used tea bags to draw out toxins.

  11. Step 11

For foot treatments, offer the girls tubs filled with warm foot soaks (either store-bought or homemade).

  12. Step 12

Offer handsoaks for manicure treatments as well as a range of polish colors to choose from. It's a good idea to have a bottle of polish remover on hand for any mishaps.

  13. Step 13

Once all treatments have been done allow the girls the chance to do each other's makeup in the lounging space.

  14. Step 14

The ideal refreshment for a spa day is herbal tea or water served with fresh lemon slices. When serving food, bear in mind the spa element and keep foods healthy and light as well as delicious. Celery sticks, carrot batons, cauliflower and broccoli are the perfect snack when served with a range of dips. Offer fresh fruit (apples, strawberries, bananas) with a decadant chocolate dip. Finger sandwiches are perfect to serve in healthy combinations such as tuna and cucumber. For afters serve mini pastries and a sparkling non-alcoholic cider (in place of champagne).

  15. Step 15

Create a goody bag filled with girly treats such as: body lotion, gels, scrubs, mini soaps, bath mitts or loofahs.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have a larger budget, consider hiring in help for your event. Using licensed therapists will allow you more free time as well as a wider range of treatments including massage.
  • The spa party works particularly well with sleepovers.
