Fishing from a Pier

Fishing from a dock or pier can be great fun, if you know how to alter your routine. Remember to think about safety and bring the proper equipment. Read on to learn more.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Long fishing rod with heavier line
  • Long-handled net
  • Garbage bag
  1. Step 1

Safety comes first. Make sure you choose a stable dock or pier. Check for wood rot or a rickety structure. Look for a guard rail around the perimeter and make sure the dock is soundly attached to the bulkhead.

  2. Step 2

Bring the proper equipment, including a longer rod with heavier line to help haul in the catch from a higher level. A long-handled net can be utilized to scoop the fish from the water if they are too heavy to hoist. This prevents back injury, fishing pole damage or the line breaking.

  3. Step 3

Choose a pier or dock that extends far out into the body of water. The further out, the deeper the water and the better the fish supply.

  4. Step 4

Bring whatever you will need once you begin fishing. It can be a long walk back to the car, especially from a pier. Bring a garbage bag to clean up afterwards. Thoroughly clean the area of the dock or pier that you fished from. Don't leave hooks, bait, discarded fishing lines or other trash.
