How to Make a Vintage Spoon Coat Hook

This vintage spoon coat hook is the perfect shabby chic way to organize your jackets in the front hall. You can also use this vintage spoon coat in the bathroom to organize towels and bathrobes. Be sure to use inexpensive silver spoons that you do not mind bending.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vintage silver spoons
  • 1x6 board
  • Ceiling molding
  • Finishing nails
  • Paint
  • Power drill
  • Metal drill bit
  • Screws
  • Paint brush
  • Sand paper
  1. Step 1

    Cut your 1x6 board to 3 feet long. Sand the rough edges lightly with sand paper. Cut your crown molding to 3 feet long as well. Sand any rough edges lightly.

  2. Step 2

    Line the crown molding up on the top of the 1X6 board. Run a bead of wood glue on the back of the molding. Press into place.

  3. Step 3

    Use a nail gun to nail the crown molding into place. Use small finishing nails. A hammer and nails can also be used.

  4. Step 4

    Drill holes in the tops of the handles of your vintage silver spoons. Drill in the widest area on the handle of the vintage silver spoons.

  5. Step 5

    Lay the silver spoons face down on a sturdy work table. Slowly bend the bowl of the spoons down to form an L shape.

  6. Step 6

    Turn the spoons over on their backs and press to shape into a hook shape by pressing the bowl towards the front of the handle.

  7. Step 7

    Prime the surface of the wood coat hook with a good quality primer. Let this dry.

  8. Step 8

    Paint the vintage spoon coat hook with any color paint you wish. Let this dry.

  9. Step 9

    Line your vintage silver spoons up on the coat hook. Mark where the holes in the spoon meet the wood.

  10. Step 10

    Pre-drill the holes for the vintage silver spoons on the front of the wood.

  11. Step 11

    Drill two holes completely through the wood. These should be 2 inches in from each side and are the holes you will use to hang the vintage spoon coat hook on the wall.

  12. Step 12

    Lay the spoons in place and screw them to the wood coat hook. Place your vintage silver spoon coat hook on the wall where you wish it to hang. Place two long screw though the hanging holes. Screw the long screws through the holes and into the walls to hang.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use wall anchors to hang the vintage coat hook craft project if you do not hit any studs in the wall.
  • Milk paint is a great paint option because it has a dry vintage look. It is also a natural primer, so you do not need to prime project first.
