Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cut out a sheet of paper to 14 inches by 14 inches. Fold the paper in half and cut out a heart shape.

  2. Step 2

Cut out two pieces of felt fabric to 14 inches by 14 inches. Trace the heart pattern onto both squares of fabric. Trace the heart onto the fabric with chalk. Cut out both hearts from the felt fabric.

  3. Step 3

Cut out four pieces of ribbon that is each 4 inches long. Fold each ribbon in half. Slide one ribbon through each of the buckles on the U shaped purse handles.

  4. Step 4

Lay one heart down on your table. Place one U shaped handle on the top of the heart. Center the handles. Repeat on the other heart shape.

  5. Step 5

Pin the ribbons threaded through the buckles onto the front of the hearts. Sew into place with your sewing machine. A simple X will do. Repeat on the other heart shape.

  6. Step 6

Place one button on top of each ribbon, right below the buckle. Use a needle and thread to sew a button over the front of each piece of ribbon for added detail. Trim off any thread on the inside of the heart.

  7. Step 7

Take one heart and lay it front side up on your table. Place the second heart front side down on your first heart.

  8. Step 8

Pin the two sides together--only the angled sides, do not pin the two rounded humps.

  9. Step 9

Sew each side together on your sewing machine. Again, do not sew the humps together, only the two sides. Trim any thread and turn the heart shaped purse inside out.

Tips & Warnings
  • Felt and other no fray fabrics are perfect for this heart shaped easy heart purse or tote.
  • You can make your heart shaped tote in any size simply by making larger hearts.
  • Add a pocket in a heart shape to the front for more detail. Sew this heart on before you sew the two sides of the purse together. Cut out a small heart in an accent fabric. Now sew the two sides to the front of the purse.
