Dandruff results from the excessive shedding of dead skin cells from your scalp. This is triggered by harsh shampoos, overactive oil glands, poor scalp blood circulation, excessive perspiration, emotional stress or food allergies. You can overcome your dandruff with these two simple herbal home remedies.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbs. sage
  • 1 tbs. Nettle
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbs. chamomile
  • 1 tbs. peppermint
  • 1 tbs. thyme
  • 1 tbs. rosemary
  • 1/4 cup liquid Castile Soap
  • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel
  • 2 tbs. apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbs. light vegetable oil (coconut, almond or grapeseed are good choices)

Apply a generous amount to your wet hair. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse it out with cool water.

Tips & Warnings

  • After shampooing, you can rinse your hair with a solution of white vinegar and water in equal parts.
  • If you have blonde or light-colored hair, increase the amount of chamomile to bring out your hair’s natural highlights. If you have brown hair, increase the amount of rosemary for the same effect. Adding lemon verbana to the steeping herbs will add body to your hair.
  • The apple cider vinegar help restore your scalp’s chemical balance, while killing the bacteria that help aggravate your dandruff problem. The aloe vera gel helps moisturize your scalp.
  • Don't use any herbs that you may be allergic to. Test a bit of the final product on a small patch of your scalp. Dab it on and let it stay on for the same period you would normally leave it on your scalp. Rinse and then wait about an hour to ensure there are no adverse skin reactions.
